Stephens and Garmon Split Late Model Doubleheader at Peach State
Jefferson, Georgia - (April 30, 2005) In a very exciting night of racing, seventeen Pro-Late Models were on hand to compete in the twin 40 features presented by Equipment Unlimited at Peach State Speedway Saturday night. In the first 40 lap Pro-Late Model feature, Jimmy Garmon of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed Richie Etheridge of Gainesville on lap 14 on his way to the win.
The only caution during the feature occurred on lap 30 when Oxford's Jimmy Price spun in turn two, ending up against the inside guard rail. He was able to get back to the pits under his own power. Rounding out the top five were, Kevin Stephens of Gainesville, Ray Brooks of Jefferson, Taylor Satterfield of Commerce and Michel Lance of Dacula.
The second 40 lap Pro-Late Model feature didn't go so well for some drivers. On lap 1, Ray Brooks of Jefferson got lose coming out of turn two. When drivers began to check up behind him, Joel Anderson of Dawsonville, Kevin Perry of Jefferson and John Harrison of Commerce all were collected and ended up in the outside wall in turn 3. None of the drivers were able to continue. On the restart, Kevin Stephens took the lead and never looked back for the win. Stephens held off several challenges for the lead from Jimmy Garmon who ended up second. Rounding out the top five were Michael Lance of Dacula, Richie Etheridge and Brian Smith both of Gainesville.
Greg Aushurn of Athens held off several charges for the lead from David Murphy of Pendergrass and Travis Hearn to win the 25 lap Sportsman feature. Corey Dearing led the first few laps, but fell out with mechanical problems.
The results from the 20 lap Mini-Stock feature are pending according to track officials.
