Kevin Perry takes first win in Georgia Asphalt Series at Peach State

by: Allen Hastings

Jefferson, Georgia (July 23, 2005) -  Commerce, Georgia's, Kevin Perry, has been racing at his home track of Peach State Speedway for a very long time.  Perry moved up from the Mini-Stock division a couple of years ago and has been racing in the Late Model class since. Perry began driving for a new

team this year and has shown much improvement. All his hard work paid off Saturday night with a win in the Georgia Asphalt Series 100 lapper at his home track of Peach State Speedway.

Perry took the Pole Position in qualifying with an 18.555 around the 1/2 mile oval. On the roll of the dice, Perry rolled a four, relegating him to start in the fourth position .This moved Buford, Georgia's Richey Etheridge to the pole.

At the drop of the green flag, Etheridge jumped out to an early lead.  Meanwhile, further back in the pack, Ryan Sieg and last weeks winner at Senoia Speedway, Roger Delp, tangled on the front straightaway. Delp was sent hard into the front stretch retaining wall. His racer finally came to rest in turn one. Sieg's racer was undamaged and he was able to continue. Delp's evening was over.

After the clean up, Etheridge maintained the lead for the next 93 laps, running away from the field. However in the latter stages of the race, Etheridge tires began to fade, allowing a patient Perry to chase him down and pass him.  "This is my first Late Model win and it came at my home track, said Perry.

This is along way from racing in the Mini-Stocks here"

The only other incident during the 100 lapper occurred on lap 10 when Taylor Satterfield and Korey Ruble tangled coming out of turn four. Ruble was through for the evening.

The next Georgia Asphalt Series event will be at Senoia Speedway in Senoia, Georgia on July 31st.
