Local Divisions Provide Exciting Action.
This weekends local division action at Peach State was as exciting as usual.
Pro Challenge
In
the Pro Challenge Series it was a fast paced race. The race
went green all the way, and Jonathan Chandler started on the pole
and lead every lap. The race for second through fourth was
exciting however and those three cars ran pretty much nose to tail
for those three spots. We'll have more on this class when
results become available.
Ice Man
The Ice Man
division provides some exciting action. Russell Shore started
on the pole due to the fact he was
the only driver in that division who managed to attend the required
drivers meeting. Rules require ALL drivers to attend the
drivers meeting or start at the tail of the field. SO Shore
inherited the pole when he was the only driver to show for the
drivers meeting.
Right at the drop of the green flag the #4 car of Chad Atha, and #7 race machine of Mark Burton crashed just after the start / finish line. Neither car was able to continue. Shore lead until almost the half way point in the race, and the #10 car of Brian Hardman tracked him down. They race nose to tail for several laps, and then finally Hardman was able to slip under him heading into turn #1. Shore was able to hound Hardman or a few laps, but Hardman was able to pull away bit by bit every lap and by the time the checkers flew the winner left no doubt who had the best car on this night.

Pro Trucks
Kevin Barrett won
the pole, and then drew a 3 on the inversion. That put the #99
truck of Brian Huff on the pole, joining him was Cohen Motes on the
front row. Huff jumped out to the lead, with Barrett and Roger
Adkins on his tailgate. It looked like the #19 Motes vehicle
was having either handling or mechanical issues. It didn't
take
long for Barrett to get around Huff, but Huff hounded Barrett and
wasn't going to let him get away with an easy win. He was
going to make him work for it. On lap 20 the running order was
Still Barrett, Huff, and Adkins. Mike Davidson again showed
and chose to start on the rear, by this time he had moved himself up
into 5th position. Motes was still struggling, and had fallen
further back into 7th.
On circuit #40 of the 50 lap race the yellow hankie waved for the first time. The #64 truck of Randy Stodemire had a lazy spin and stalled. He was able to continue.
Shortly after the green flew Adkins was able to pass the truck of Huff, and started making his move. Also coming though the bunched up pack was the #46 of Paul Antley, and #22 of Larry Jordan. It was an exciting last few laps winding down to the checkers as the group battled for the top spots. Before the race ended both Antley and Jordan was able to battle they way by Huff. From start to finish a great race.

Mini Stocks
With such a large field this week we qualified the Mini Stocks this week. A crisp $100 bill to the fastest qualifier.
The #25 of Tim Lanier started from the pole... when the green flag flew the car just didn't 'go'. Not sure what type of mechanical issue it had, but it sure stacked up the huge field behind him. Got to commend the mini stock field. They sure did an excellent job of racing that first lap. It was exciting from a fans point of view, and probably even MORE exciting from a racers point of view as cars went four and five wide on the high banks. The car of Lanier ended up stalling on the back straight and the yellow had to be displayed, bringing some sort of calm to the hectic start. After a push Laniers car was able to get fired again.
On
the restart Russell Shore had the lead in his #23 car with the #12
of points leader Steve Hill and #7 of Darrell Carlson hot on his
heels. Shortly after that Hill was able to make his way under
Shore, and bring Carlson with him. Other than the yellow on
lap one, the only other time the yellow flew was about half way for
a single car incident. After taje Hill jumped to the lead, and
his teammate William Earnest was the only one who looked like he
might have anything for him. Unfortunately Earnest was buried
back in the pack and by the time he cleared the traffic there was
too few laps left for him to track Hill down. He did manage to
get up into second place.
