World Crown Weekend - Day #1
Day one of the long anticipated World Crown weekend was a beautiful day. Warm sunny weather, and even after the sun went down it didn't get cold. Most folks slipped on a jacket to keep of a slight chill, but no where near what would be considered cold. Saturday is supposed to be even warmer. so it should be an even better day for fans to come to the race track and see all the racing action day number two has to offer.
Friday had a lot of action and it was also a learning experience for for many of the racers who don't race at the high banks of Peach State on a regular basis. A few incidents here and there if different divisions. The late models saw Shawn Simpson blow a tire and hit the turn #2 wall, luckily he had a backup car. DJ Vanderley spun exiting turn #4 and messed up the nose of his car, it appeared to be mostly cosmetic. A couple other driver had mechanical problems, so teams had their share of problems besides just learning the tracks, and trying to adjust their cars.
Several late entries were on hand today for the Late Model race. Local drivers Wayne Willard, Bobby East, Bubba Pollard, Alex Garcia, Chase Austin and Brian Weimer all showed up on Friday and added their name to the list of participants of this years World Crown event. Also entering late was these drivers from further away; Mickey Wright, Jimmy Weller, and Max Gresham. With another full day of practice before Late Model qualifying on Saturday,.. wouldn't surprise me to see more driver show up for this division tomorrow
In the Iceman division one of the out of town drivers who pulled all the way up here from Florida blew his motor, and ended his weekend early. Had a few mini stock spins, and mechanical problems also.
The program today included Late Model practice,... and then practice and qualifying for all the local divisions.
A nice turn out of race vehicles were on hand for ALL the divisions. We had over 40 late models show up today, and are expecting more to show up tomorrow. We also have almost 30 mini stocks on the grounds as of now, and with the first day being on Friday we know it is difficult for folks to come out after they got off of work and be here in time to practice or qualify. We also have about 20 Pro Trucks and a good field of IceMan cars already. SO with all the local divisions at Peach State we would expect several more race cars to show up tomorrow and tag onto the rear of the field for the feature races.
The top 5 qualifying results from all our divisions are below.
| Pro Challenge | Mini Stocks | Ice Man | Pro Trucks |
| 99 - John Chandler | 32 - Troy French | 42 - Phil Peppers | 09 - Kevin Barrett |
| 51 - Nick Stroup | 4 - Wayne Smith | 33 - Russell Shore | 01 - Roger Adkins |
| 118 - Devan Hahn | 12 - Steve Hill | 98 - Jared Lovett | 99 - Brian Huff |
| 35 - Trevor Farbo | 71 - Ben Kay | 24 - Mike Davidson | 6 - Mike Davidson |
| 9 - Raymond Williams | 21 - Brad Burdette | 21 - Mark Buckner | 13 - Wes Whitfield |
Just a few pictures from Friday. More to come as time allows.

| This is the aftermath of DJ Vanderleys tangle with the wall | Shawn SImpson blew a tire and smacked the wall in turn #2. Seems the wall always wins. The team will be burning the late night oils to get this car repaired. |

| John Wes Townley in the Zaxby's #09 | Brian Weimer was a late entrant to the World Crown, but he's a good driver and we think he'll do well in his Greystone sponsored Ford |

| No doubting whose David Hole's loyalties lie with,.. He's an Auburn man all the way. | This is just one of the many way the cars will be teched this weekend. This "referee' checks many components of the cars height and width as it passes over the car. I'll post a whole section on this piece of equipment later. Suffice it to say the cars will get a thorough going over this weekend both before and after the races. |
